We'd like to make a big shoutout to everyone involved in Bec and Nick's wedding a few weeks back. To everyone who pulled out the stops, decorating the space with beautiful fairy lights and flowers, and providing a wedding cake and sandwiches- thank you!
Nick shared his heartfelt thank you for all of the support on their wedding day and for the care provided at LOROS:
Nick recalls: “We couldn’t believe the reaction and we read every single message. It was overwhelming. It was incredible. I also became famous within the hospice. Everyone used to nod and smile but suddenly everyone knew me, even other relatives and they started saying ‘Hi Nick!’ They really took us to their hearts. One of the staff said to me ‘I’m not sure if you realise how much you’ve touched everyone here’, which was lovely, just lovely.
“But for me and Bex, sharing our wedding was about raising awareness of LOROS and the fantastic work that goes on here. We were blown away by the love that was shown. If people get a sense of how important LOROS care is, that meant more to Bex than any publicity about her.”
Sadly, Bec died a few days ago, on Mother's Day.
“It was Bex’s hope that all the love we saw for our story is transferred on to LOROS now. She was so full of love – I’ve got a huge list of people and presents she’s asked me to buy to recognise everyone’s contribution, including requests like ‘an endless supply of chocolate’ – I’m not sure how I can achieve that!
“But she wanted to feel her story was the means to get people to understand how important LOROS is. That was her wish. We talked about it.
“And the care is amazing. I didn’t just visit my wife in the hospice, I interacted and received its support. So, for me this will always be a place of comfort rather than sadness.
“I’m not the patient and the support I got, and am still getting, is immense. To know that it’s not going to suddenly stop either. It’s a huge safety net. It gives me the confidence to go out into the world and carry on.”
