Seventy-four riders turned out for the first ever LOROS Leicestershire Round Bike Ride on Saturday 9th September 2023. The 100mile route saw cyclists complete the entire circumference of Leicestershire on two wheels, on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year peaking at a whopping 32 degrees!
To make the most of the coolest part of the day, the ride started as soon as it was light at 6am, but the temperatures were already rising by 10am as most made their way up one of the hillier sections alongside Swithland Woods and Bradgate Park.
Three rest stops provided everyone with the fuel and water needed to keep going throughout the day, based at Mountsorrel Working Men’s Club, Bosworth Marina, and The Cock Inn, Peatling Magna; with a hot lunch awaiting the riders in Bosworth courtesy of the Rapid Relief Team.
Finish times ranged from an incredible 5hrs 18mins, all the way down to the more stately 12hrs 10mins, but everyone made it home safely and had a wonderful reminder of just how beautiful our Leicestershire countryside is.
Donations continue to fly in from all the riders who have been busy fundraising, but so far after costs the Bike Ride has raised over £6,000 for LOROS Hospice.
A big thank you to Mountsorrel Working Men’s Club, Bosworth Marina, The Rapid Relief Team, and The Cock Inn, Peatling Magna who all very kindly hosted stops on the route, as well as Swithland Water and Food Connections Ltd for providing supplies for the event. And of course to all our riders being absolute troopers on the day, along with all of you that have donated to support them.
