Massive congratulations to the LOROS team that took on The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 5th August.
A total of 16 people set out in the morning from Horton-in-Ribblesdale with more than 25 miles of mountain paths awaiting them across the entire three peaks. The first challenge was a big wake up call, with the route rising steeply out of the valley up the side of Pen-Y-Ghent, the first of the three peaks. After successfully reaching the summit, the team then turned northwards and headed for the impressive Ribblehead viaduct, driven onwards by the promise of lunch!
Following a meal break the team began the ascent of peak two; Whernside is the highest point of the entire trek at 736m above sea level. We were greeted with glorious views all the way out to the sea in Morecambe Bay before starting on the tricky, steep descent off of the summit towards our final goal of the day – Ingleborough.
As the weather rolled in the summit of Ingleborough became steeped in cloud and the team were forced to climb the steep staircase up to the final summit with nothing but fog for a view. Arriving to the summit quite late on, there was a very quick stop at the summit before we started the 7km descent back to our starting point.
With legs tiring and darkness coming in the team’s progress was slowed with everyone finishing the challenge gone midnight!
It was a truly incredible effort from all involved and we would like to say a massive thank you to everyone that took part.
So far, the team has raised in excess of £5,000 and the total is still climbing.
