On Sunday 14th May, LOROS Hospice, DeMontfort University and Eava FM were delighted to unveil the final artwork produced by young people during the ‘Piecing it Together’ project in line with Dying Matters Week 2023.

The Piecing it Together project focused on openly talking about death, dying and bereavement with young people. Research has revealed that young people often felt that they were rarely asked about how death affects them and why dying matters to them. The aim of this project was to raise awareness of this and help young people to openly discuss death and the impacts that it has on them.

Station Manager and Presenter at Eava FM, Vijay Umrao, said: “This was a really heavy topic to approach young people about and lots of conversations took place on how best to approach this. About sixty young people got involved in our project, drawing what came to mind when asked what dying means to them. It was amazing to see. This project has been rewarding both personally and professionally to me. I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in this project.”

LOROS Deputy Research Lead, Dr Zoebia Islam, said: “It is a privilege to work with Eava FM and DMU, being part of such an important project. The launch was a true celebration of a phenomenal piece of art created by young people, empowering them to have their say on why dying matters. We are truly thankful to all of the young people, organisations and individuals involved. Thank you for starting the conversation!”

LOROS Hospice are delighted to confirm that the Piecing it Together project will be continuing for another year. The project will continue to work with young people to encourage discussions on the impacts that death, dying and bereavement has and break the taboo subject that is death.
