LOROS opens wellbeing space in Uppingham

6 Apr 2022

LOROS Hospice has opened a community wellbeing space above its charity shop in the market town of Uppingham.

The space has a comfortable seating area, plus a general meeting area and a smaller ‘counselling room’.

It will be used to provide a number of LOROS services but is also available for community groups and voluntary sector organisations to utilise, as well as for local businesses to hire.

The Lord-Lieutenant for Rutland Dr Sarah Furness said: “I am delighted that LOROS has developed this lovely wellbeing space above their shop in Uppingham. It is wonderful to see the Hospice providing specific services in Rutland, which will be greatly appreciated by people facing a terminal illness in the local community. It is also good to know that the space can be utilised by others, it is a really beneficial facility for the local area.”

As well as its charity shop in the town and the services that LOROS will be providing in the wellbeing space, it is also working with two other local hospices, Dove Cottage Day Hospice and Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, to provide a bereavement help point in Uppingham, in addition to the one already established in Ketton.

With the support of specially trained volunteers, the sessions will run on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 3-5pm from the Falcon Hotel in the town.

Claire Henry, LOROS Trustee and a member of Dying Matters Rutland commented: “The LOROS wellbeing space is going to be a welcome addition to the facilities and services currently available in Rutland. It will complement the recently established bereavement help point and LOROS will be able to offer other elements of bereavement support and 1:1 counselling in the space plus some complementary therapy initiatives, including relaxation and mindfulness. This is a very exciting initiative and will provide much needed support for the people of Uppingham and the surrounding areas.”

In addition to the Bereavement Help Points in Rutland, LOROS has also opened several drop-in bereavement support hubs across Leicestershire. More information is available at loros.co.uk/bereavementsupport

Jo Kavanagh, Director of Care Services at LOROS, said: “LOROS’s purpose is to support the people of Leicestershire and Rutland and it is really important for us to be able to provide services closer to peoples’ homes and to engage more closely with all our supporters and partner organisations to enable this to happen.
