LOROS Hospice scoop national award for innovation in fundraising

15 Nov 2021

LOROS Hospice has received a national award for its innovative approach to raising funds to support its care for patients and families.

The charity, which runs two cafes and a mobile drinks van in addition to its fundraising efforts, has collected the Innovation in Income Generation Award at the Hospice UK national conference in Liverpool.

The cafes, catering and mobile drinks van build on the in-house knowledge and skills of the Hospice’s catering team, which provide nutritious meals for the hospice’s Day Therapy and Ward patients each day.

As the pandemic forced charity shops to shut, the hospice was able to raise vital funds and spread awareness of the LOROS services available to people across their community.

Anna Shutt, Business Development Lead at LOROS Hospice said: “We are delighted to have won this award and the acknowledgment of our work by Hospice UK is deeply appreciated. Like other hospices we’ve been driven by the need to find alternative sources of income in these uncertain times.

“But we strongly believe that it’s also possible to invest in ventures which go hand in hand with our values and culture. Our cafes sit at the heart of their neighbourhoods just as our hospice does, and as well as providing vital income they’ve been warmly supported by our communities which is so important to us.”

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Hospice UK CEO, Tracey Bleakley said: “Congratulations to LOROS Hospice on winning the Innovation in Income Generation Award. Their dedication and commitment to providing vital hospice and end of life care has been amazing to see, and without doubt has made a huge difference to the many people who rely on their support.”
