Five year old Christopher Mooney was honoured by the great and the good last night at LOROS' annual Christmas Concert, held at Leicester Cathedral.
Christopher was recognised for his outstanding fundraising efforts, in personally raising more than £1,500 after the death of his uncle David at LOROS in June 2019.
On hearing the devastating news from his mum, Emma, young Christopher suggested running one-mile 41 times in memory of his beloved Uncle, who was 41 years old when he died.
Emma said, "Christopher's target was at first £2 but we told him to try for something a little harder, he then said £10,000, but we suggested something a little smaller, so he decided on £100. The challenge is completely his idea.”
Christopher still has a few walks to do to complete his challenge but has already smashed his target, raising a massive £1,640.
Last night he was given an early Christmas present and thanked by Lady Gretton, LOROS president, John Knight, Chief Executive of LOROS and BBC Radio Leicester presenter Rupal Rajani, on behalf of all at LOROS Hospice.
John said, "Christopher is a totally inspirational boy and we wanted to thank him personally for his amazing fundraising. The money he has raised will go towards supporting more patients and providing the care they need. His support of LOROS means so much – he’s a real role model for all of us.”
Emma said, “David spent the last few days of his life in the wonderful care of those at LOROS, we as a family are forever grateful for the care they gave to David at the most difficult of times. "This gives us our chance to say thank you to those who supported and continue to support us through this. We are the proudest parents now, more than ever before.” You can still sponsor Christopher at:
