Do you have a few hours free each week? If you do, LOROS Hospice wants to hear from you. With a huge range of roles available the charity can make use of everyone’s skills and experience.
“We rely on our volunteers so we can focus our much needed funds on the most important aspect of LOROS - caring for our patients,” says Minaxi Patel, Volunteering Manager.
“Volunteers are involved in so many aspects of LOROS life, if you’ve got a skill, we can make use of it!”
Volunteering roles at LOROS are hugely diverse – from serving families tea and cake in the snack bar to working in our furniture shops, to sorting donations, to chatting to patients.
Tech savvy online shoppers are also needed as LOROS is looking for people to help sell donations on online marketplace sites like Ebay and Music Magpie.
“Volunteering is also great for your CV - providing the skills and experience you might be lacking to move into your dream job,” says Minaxi.
Volunteers often function as a team and find they pick up skills from working together. Volunteering in LOROS shops provides experience of money handling and customer service and anyone volunteering at the Hospice snack bar will take their level 2 food hygiene certificate. All these skills could be crucial for climbing the career ladder.
Minaxi adds, “We provide job specific training to ensure you know exactly what to do in your role as well as a thorough induction into how the hospice works to welcome you to LOROS. Come and join our volunteering family!”
Temi, 20, volunteers in Day Therapy. “I’ve only just started but I really enjoy it. I love talking to patients, I can learn a lot from them. Each day I meet different people and make friends. It’s really exceeded my expectations.”
Temi is studying for a degree in Psychology and says volunteering helps improve her communication skills.
“At the moment I’m volunteering four times a week. Once Uni starts again I’ll have to reduce that a bit but I will definitely continue to fit it in round my studies.”
LOROS Volunteer Fair is taking place on Saturday 28th September, 10am-2pm. Come and find out what we can offer you. More information at loros.co.uk/volunteerfair
