Today, LOROS Hospice CEO, John Knight, and members of the Jeakins Weir construction team celebrated the landmark event for the Hospice by placing the final roof tile onto the highly anticipated new Day Therapy and Outpatient’s building.
The extension is Phase Two of the Site Development Project which will be completed by the end of the year.
The entire Site Development Project is an investment of close to £6.1 million and Phase Two will see the improvement and expansion of the Hospice’s Day Therapy and Outpatients facilities. This will allow an additional 250 terminally ill patients each year to visit on a regular basis and enhance their quality of life.
John Knight said: “We’re another step closer to the end of this exciting development for LOROS.
“The building will be equipped with new and advanced technology in order to make visitors as comfortable as possible, create more space and offer bespoke facilities for our day therapy and lymphoedema services.
“Following the completion of Phase One last year, which saw us build and open our Professional Development Centre, we’re hoping to have this phase finished by the end of this year. This will mean we can welcome our first patients and carers into the state-of-the-art facilities in time for the annual Christmas celebrations.”
James Banaszak, Contracts Manager at Jeakins Weir said: “I’m really pleased with the progress we’ve made so far. The topping-out ceremony is a landmark event which celebrates the completion of the roof construction, an important milestone for any new building. Of course, it wouldn’t have been a traditional commemorative topping-out ceremony without the enjoyment of a pint!”
Funding for the project has come from two large historic legacies, the sale of Manor Croft – the previous LOROS day care building, located in the city – and a recent generous donation, as well as funds that have been carefully reserved over time for this very exciting development.
