The iconic beacons in St Peter's Square will be turning yellow for LOROS this October, as Highcross becomes one of the latest organisations to sign up for Yellow Day.

Taking place on Friday 13th October, everyone and anyone is being encouraged to wear yellow for the Groby Road Hospice and pay £1 in return.

The annual campaign is once again being held as part of the annual Hospice Care Week, a national campaign showcasing the work of Hospices, like LOROS, across the country.

A spokesperson from Highcross, whose charity of the year is LOROS, said: “We are extremely excited to be supporting LOROS Yellow Day.

“We have lots planned for Yellow Day including turning the beacons in St Peter's Square yellow, offering members of the public the opportunity to have a special message for a loved one featured on them.

In return for a small donation to LOROS, Highcross have been giving people the chance to have a personalised message written on their beacons, which will play throughout the day.

“Our retailers will be joining in too by getting their yellow socks, ties, nail varnish, jackets and other yellow accessories out in the name of fundraising fun,” the spokesperson added.

“I’m sure the day will be a huge success resulting in vital funds being raised for one of Leicester’s best loved charities.”

The campaign is in its fourth year and has raised nearly £20,000 for LOROS to date.

LOROS fundraiser Dave Nicklin said: “Every year, it’s so great to see waves of yellow spread across the county as dozens of people take part in Yellow Day.

“This year, we’re hoping the campaign will be bigger than ever, with as many organisations, businesses, schools and colleges signed up as possible.

“Who doesn’t love a dress down day? And when it’s for charity, what better excuse than that to get involved?”

As an extra incentive this year, all schools that sign up to take part will receive an extra special visit from Lionel the LOROS Lion.
