A teenager whose aunt died at LOROS has met X Factor star Sam Bailey after she helped to raise more than £120,000 for the Hospice by sharing her story for this year’s Christmas Raffle.
Chloe Holford, 14, of Oadby, was treated to a meet-and-greet with the cast from this year’s pantomime at De Montfort Hall yesterday (Wednesday) as the winning £10,000 ticket was drawn.
X Factor winner Sam Bailey, who is playing the Queen of the Flower Fairies in this year’s Jack and the Beanstalk production, picked the winning ticket.
Chloe said: “I am so happy that I have helped to raise so much money for such a good cause, it’s overwhelming to see how much was raised.”
Chloe’s aunt, Jodie Johnson, who was a patient on the ward at LOROS this year, died in March after losing her battle with cancer at the age of 34.
“I know if Jodie was here, she would be so proud,” added Chloe.
“I have seen what LOROS does and the great care it provides; it’s so lovely to know I’m helping people just like Jodie get the support and care she did.”
This year’s raffle raised around £121,000, with each ticket sold costing £1.
“It is so great to see young people so passionate about raising money and awareness,” said singer, Sam, who won ITV’s X Factor in 2013.
“The amount that Chloe has raised is fantastic, it was great to meet her and congratulate her on the achievement.”
Along with one main winner, there was a second prize of £500, a third of £250 and five £50 winners.
Britain’s Got Talent impressionist, Jon Clegg, who plays Simple Simon and Leicester’s favourite dame Martin Ballard, of BBC Radio Leicester, both helped pull the winning tickets along with Sam.
“It’s such a fantastic achievement for Chloe and she is an inspiration to many other young people,” said Martin.
“LOROS is such a worthy cause, a local charity for local people and it’s incredible the amount of work they do.”
