A record-breaking number of people passed through the doors of LOROS on Saturday when the Hospice held its first ever family-friendly Open Day.
Nearly 800 visitors came out in force to support the event, which came at the end of this year’s national Hospice Care Week.
The event, which was called ‘Love Leicester, Love LOROS’, raised nearly £5,000 for the Hospice, which too, is a record-breaking amount raised at an Open Day held by the organisation.
LOROS CEO John Knight said: “It was overwhelming to see the amount of people who came out to support this year’s Open Day at LOROS.
“What a way to end such a fantastic Hospice Care Week, than our most successful Open Day to date.
“I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all of the members of staff, volunteers, local suppliers and business and of course every single visitor who made Saturday such a success.”
The day was bursting with fun activities for all the family, including miniature pony rides, a Pimms and fizz stall, complementary therapy, shopping, face painting and much, much more.
Throughout the day, a flower arranging and cake decorating workshop took place for visitors to learn a new skill.
The Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service from Western Station also made an appearance on the day, allowing people to sit inside the fire engine and try on specialist equipment.
People were also given a chance to learn about the services LOROS offers, as well as enjoy a wide selection of delicious foods and beverages, most of which had been donated by locally-based suppliers.
“The Hospice was full of people from 10am when the event started, to 4pm when it finished,” added John.
“It was so wonderful to see so many people, of all ages, enjoying the various activities taking place, while exploring some of the services LOROS offers.
“It’s often hard to get people through the doors of a Hospice and a lot of people believe them to be gloomy and dingy places so hosting events like that on Saturday, is a great way of dispelling some of those myths and showing people what places like LOROS is really like.”
