Doing exactly what is says on the tin, ‘Laughter At LOROS’, promises to give people a night bursting with fun-filled comedy while raising money for a fantastic cause.
The gig, which is the first of its kind to be held by the Groby Road charity will be taking place in the Hospice, tonight from 8pm. (FRI)
Hosting the event, will be former Comedian of the Year Jack Campbell, with funny-man Lloyd Griffith, who has supported the likes of Rob Beckett on his 2013-14 sold-out tour and Angela Barnes, who was mentored by Sarah Millican, also performing this evening.
Speaking about tonight’s gig, Lloyd said: “I try and do as many charity gigs as I can each year, I love using my skills to raise money for people who really need it.
“Both my auntie and cousin work at a Hospice, so doing this one at LOROS is particularly close to my heart.”
As well as putting on a night full of entertainment, one of the main aims of the evening is to dispel some of the myths suggesting Hospices are full of doom and gloom by getting visitors through the door.
“I want people to come and forget any issues they might have and just have a laugh,” added Lloyd.
“The patients, their families, carers, or anyone who is supporting the Hospice has probably been affected by the work LOROS does, so for just one evening, I want people to just have fun.
“Before we talk, we laugh and people often forget that. It sounds so cheesy but we should never forget how to laugh.”
For Jack, the event, which is part of the official Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival programme, will be the first comedy gig he has done at a Hospice.
“I think it’s such a good thing to do, raising money for charity through comedy,” said the former De Montfort University student.
“I’m looking forward to going to LOROS, it’s great that Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival is working with local charities to allow events like this to happen.”
The event, which has been inspired by Lizzy Strong, a woman who died at LOROS last year following a battle with cancer, was sold out with two weeks to go.
Lizzy faced cancer head on following her diagnosis and brought in a total of more than £13,000 for LOROS by doing silly things to raise money.
Fundraising Co-ordinator Dave Nicklin said: “Each year, we have to raise £4.5million to ensure we can continue caring and supporting 2,500 patients from across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
“We have never held a comedy gig at LOROS before and we are so excited that it sold out within weeks of the tickets going on sale.”
