Leicester City star Jamie Vardy has drawn the LOROS Christmas Raffle, with the first prize ticket winning one lucky player more than £10,000.
The footballer, who recently broke the Guinness World Record after scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games, took part in the LOROS Lotteries draw at their training ground yesterday. (Wednesday 9th December)
Speaking about the event, Jamie said: “It’s a privilege to be involved in LOROS events - as long as I’ve played for Leicester City there has always been a strong relationship between us.
“Congratulations to all the raffle winners and to LOROS on a great fundraising effort.”
Jamie was joined by LOROS Patron and Leicester City Ambassador Alan Birchenall, LOROS CEO John Knight, LOROS Lottery Manager Liz Singleton, along with a few members of the Lotteries team.
The 28-year-old striker also spent time with Guy Lambeth, who has Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and uses the services at LOROS.
“It’s a great local charity that does amazing work supporting people like Guy, who I really enjoyed meeting after training,” added Jamie.
Guy, 47, who has been in contact with LOROS since he was diagnosed with MND four years ago, took his two young sons, six-year-old Fraser and Jack, four, with him.
“Meeting Vardy was brilliant, he was great and the boys loved it,” said Guy, whose experience of the Hospice has been used to help promote this year’s Raffle.
As a treat, Jamie gave a football to Fraser and Jack, which had been signed by the whole team, along with a signed picture.
“It’s been a lovely treat for us all in the run up to Christmas. We all loved it,” added Guy, of Groby.
“And it’s always nice to see The Birch, he never fails to put a smile on people’s faces.”
The LOROS Christmas Raffle has this year raised more than £104,000 for the Hospice.
LOROS Lotteries Manager Liz Singleton said: “When we asked Guy who he wanted to do the draw, he said Vardy – and there was no changing his mind.
“We are extremely grateful to the club and Jamie for taking time out of their busy schedule to draw this year’s Christmas Raffle. It meant so much to Guy, his family and the team at LOROS.
“With raffle tickets costing just £1 each, it never ceases to amaze me just how generous people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland can be.
“I’m so pleased we’ve raised such a great amount, it’s wonderful. I can relax now – only for a few weeks mind, I’ll be busy preparing the Spring Raffle soon and with that being the LOROS Lottery 20th anniversary, it’s set to be a big one.”
