Family's sponsored walk raises funds for LOROS

Back in June, the Whitby family took part in a sponsored walk through Bradgate Park to raise vital funds for our Hospice.

Rachel Whitby, a member of the family, said "Wow, what can I say! We had a fantastic family walk through a beautiful park.

"Unfortunately, the weather was not very kind to us but, in true British tradition, we all carried on regardless and walked the perimeter of the park and up to old John and back; even the youngest participant, aged just 4, managed the whole walk.

"Laughs were had by all when several members of the team managed to fall into the muddy puddles and others slid down the bank when ascending old John!

"We would like to thank all the kind people who sponsored our walkers and Alfie the dog who also took part -we managed to raise £652.80 for LOROS. I would also like to thank all the walkers and make special mention of Mr Tommy Poxon, one of our team, who sadly passed away just five weeks after our event."

Debbie Dickman, Fundraising Co-ordinator at the Hospice said: "The Whitby family are a great example of people who go the extra mile to raise funds for us and I would like to add our thanks to everyone who was involved with their event.

"Despite the bad weather, they continued their walk and raised more the £650. Their donation could pay for the cost of one of our specialist nurses for almost a week."
