Two popular music festivals raised thousands of pounds for needy causes with a combination of great live music and programmes of family activities.

Hillfest, at Holwell Sports football ground on Saturday, generated cash for the LOROS hospice charity, while Hose Fest, a two-day event which featured music and the annual village fete, made around £3,000 for local community organisations, such as the primary school, village hall and churches.

The Hillfest event featured a strong line-up of seven bands, including Melton-based The Veltones and Monochrome Empire, from Grantham, for what was the third annual event.

Stefan Packwood, who organised it with Ian Welbourn, said: “We made thousands of pounds for LOROS and the Melton branch of the Marie Curie charity raised £250 for their own organisation which they were over the moon with.

“This was the best Hillfest yet - there was no trouble at all and the atmosphere was amazing.”

The Hose Fest started with a performance by a Dolly Parton tribute act on the Friday and continued on the Saturday with eight live acts on stage around the village hall site.

The fete, with various stalls and activities, was held on the village green and visitors also had the opportunity to enjoy a beer tent with 18 real ales and ciders provided.

Tony Pile, one of the organisers, said: “The event has been running in different formats for 10 years now and this one was slightly bigger than what we’ve had before.
