Former Leicester Tigers player and rugby legend Martin Johnson has joined forces with his old teammate Matt Poole to raise money for LOROS Hospice.
The former England captain and manager hosted an ‘Evening with Martin Johnson’ on Wednesday night, in aid of the Leicester charity, of which he is a patron.
The night, which took place at The Mercure Hotel, in Leicester and was compared by fellow former Tiger Matt Poole, included a raffle, auction and three-course meal.
Speaking after the event, Martin said: “It was a fantastic night. I think everyone really enjoyed themselves.
“As a patron of LOROS, I’m always keen to get involved with supporting them and this was a fantastic opportunity for me to help raise some money and awareness for the charity.”
More than 100 people attended the evening, which made a profit of just under £9,000 for the local Hospice.
Fundraiser Laura Betts said: “As a local Leicester legend, as well as being a LOROS patron, our ‘Evening with Martin Johnson’ really did mean a lot to the Hospice.
“It was great to see Martin and Matt reunited and I think everyone who attended really enjoyed meeting them and getting to hear a few of their stories.
“We’re so grateful to the both of them for helping out the Hospice. Every year, we need to raise £4.5million to keep LOROS running and thanks to people like Martin and Matt, we’re one step closer to reaching that target.”
