It all began with an idea from family friend Paul Pender, who is Chairman of Braunstone Working Men's Club. He offered the use of their social room free of charge and suggested to Diane Murphy, a Hospice Volunteer , that she might like to organise a fundraising event for LOROS.

After speaking with her friend , Norma Ascott, the two decided to take Paul up on his offer and aimed to raise their dream target of £6.000.

Diane said: "We approached Colin Paul and the Persuaders, who both very generously agreed to appear at much reduced rates as it was for charity. and then we set about finding sponsors to pay them. Jivin Jon kindly offered to donate his services, free of charge, as DJ for the evening and we made an appeal for raffle and tombola prizes.

"We would like to say a great big enormous thank you to everyone who supported the event and helped us raise money for such a worthy charity as LOROS."

Diane Morris, Fundraising Manager at LOROS arrived to thank everyone for their support. When she announced the final total, which was just short of their dream target, someone immediately offered to make it up to the £6,000.

Adrian Walker, Senior Fundraiser at LOROS said: "Congratulations to Diane and Norma for organising such a big fundraising event, I admire both their courage and commitment.

"I know that since then , they have received further donations, making their grand total an amazing £10,000. This is an superb achievement on their part and the money they raised could be used to pay for one of our specialist nurses for just over 14 weeks. Thank you so much.
