A group of Rutlanders climbed 24 peaks in 24 hours to raise money for LOROS.
Oakham resident Helen Duncan and seven friends completed the trek in just under 18 hours. The challenge involves climbing 24 peaks in the Lake District, including Red Pike, Scafell Pike and Helvellyn. Each peak is over 2,400 ft high.
Helen and her friends did the challenge at the start of September.
Helen, who lost her father to cancer two years ago said: “We did the three national peaks last year in memory of my dad, and this year we wanted to do something again, but more challenging. “Out of the eight of us, five of us have lost our dad in the last two years so we just wanted to do something.”
Originally 10 people set out to do the challenge, and eight completed it. Four members of the group completed the challenge in 17 hours and 35 minutes and the other four finished in 17 hours and 55 minutes. They have so far raised over £3,000 for LOROS.
Helen said: “It was great. We had a great guide and the weather was good too.
“We had all trained hard for over eight months. We climbed Mount Snowdon, went to the Lake District a couple of times and did hill reps after work, just to prepare for this.
“It was the hardest thing all of us have done and we are all exhausted now.”
The group had support from the Oakham community. Market Overton Cricket Club, The Odd House in Oakham and Rutland Health and Beauty Clinic.

Oakham resident Lesley Goodrick, 59, will also support LOROS when she takes on a Sahara Survival Challenge and Community Project.
She will trek in the Moroccan Sahara for three to four days and will then spend two days in Marrakesh, helping with community projects. She said: “I love a challenge and it’s nice to do something for a local charity and feel useful.”
