On Sunday 29th of June, MoJo Promotions took part in the first of three ‘Triathlon themed’ events in order to raise money for local charity, LOROS.
The majority of the team dusted off their helmets and put the old axiom, ‘it’s like riding a bike, you never forget,’ to the test! The first event was held at Cannock’s ‘Chase Trails.’ This was a 10km bike ride through mountainous, rough terrain which included concrete slabs, narrow wooden bridges and many lofty jumps. The MoJo team quaked in their boots. Of the three events, this may have been the one they were most afraid of.
The team set off from Leicester at the bright and early time of 8:30am to reach Cannock (just outside of Lichfield) for 10:15am. Upon arrival, the abundance of professional looking mountain bikers certainly upset the group. Most of the team had just removed the stabilisers from their bikes and this is a course design for competent mountain bikers! The team gathered their bikes and helmets and set off on the ‘Follow the Dog’ trail. An intermediate level course, the track contained rough and narrow paths and soon had the team careering from side to side on their bikes. After the first 5 minutes, the Team had already experienced a fall when Hannah’s bike flung her over a fence, in what may have been the slowest fall of all time.
With only a few minor scratches, the Team braved on only to experience even more hardship. The back of David’s wheel nearly collided with his head, whilst Ollie nearly went for a swim in a pond underneath one of the many narrow bridges.
However, after completing the course in under an hour, it’s safe to say the Team was pushed to the limits and that they felt very rewarded for the hard work they had shown to help raise money for LOROS.
"It was truly difficult, but truly enjoyable. I would recommend it for anyone who hasn’t done it before. I particularly loved the section which smooth concrete, I’m sure I was breaking national speed limits at one point." - David Bayliss, Senior Account Manager.
"Despite the harsh challenge, it was thoroughly enjoyable. Once we had gotten to grips with the course we soon adapted to cope with the rocks and bumps and started to love the challenge. And although the pictures do not make us look overly dirty, to endure the steep hills and dangers at each hairpin turn, was a true challenge." - John Young, MD
It was very challenging, however it was a great adrenaline rush and I would certainly love to do it again - maybe even the harder course next time!" - Ollie Joyce, Studio and Accounts.
Next time the Team face the Swimming challenge of the Mojathlon, the World Bog Snorkelling Championships in Wales this August. Keep your eyes peeled for the next update, there are World Records to be broken! In the meantime, you can visit the Team’s Just Giving page to see the full details, any contributions would of course be very much appreciated or visit our blog for the latest information on our Mojathlon.
