Colour of Ribbons

The LOROS annual Colour of Ribbons event will be held in the grounds of the Hospice on Groby Road on Saturday 5th July. Visitors will have the opportunity to remember someone who has brought colour to your life; a family member, friend or a colleague, by tying a ribbon on a tree.

Vivienne Edwards, LOROS Volunteer shares her story and the reason why she will be supporting this year’s campaign: “I first heard of the Colour of Ribbons when Tony, my husband, who works at LOROS ran a cake competition for staff and volunteers, they needed help serving them so I volunteered my time.

“On the day of the event it was not a sombre time, it was really pleasant and relaxed, the sun was shining and seeing all the ribbons on the tree was quite special.

“Whilst this was my first year helping at this event, I did not think about pinning a ribbon on a tree myself, although my children did, you see my husband has been diagnosed with MND (Motor Neurone Disease) which is a terminal illness so whilst you may have loved ones you wish to remember, you can come and remember those who are still with us and struggling with illness.

“I will not hesitate to pin my ribbon on a tree this year and look forward to having a nice cup of tea and delicious piece of cake in a relaxing, enjoyable, atmosphere.”

On the day there are three time allocations available(prior arrangement is necessary); 10.00am, 11.00am and 12 noon and ribbons are available in different colours to suit the person.

There will be no official service as part of the Colour of Ribbons event, but access will still be available to the Chapel/Prayer Room and the Garden of Light and Reflection, during the day.

Light refreshments will be available, and there will be the opportunity to purchase cakes entered into a cake bake off which will have taken place in the Hospice on 4th July - an opportunity for staff at LOROS to challenge one another and demonstrate their cooking skills!

The Colour of Ribbons is by booking only. For any further information please contact the Fundraising Department on 0116 231 8431.
