Kerry Davidson, along with her husband, Conrad and sons, Dexter and Joel, will be running the Great North Run in September to raise funds for LOROS, in memory of her Dad, Bill Makepeace.
Kerry said, "We have raised money for a variety of charities over the years, but have chosen LOROS this year in memory of my Dad, who sadly passed away in May.
"It was his wish to stay at home but, as he became increasingly more poorly, we worried about our ability to keep him comfortable and provide the professional care that his illness demanded. Although the whole family desperately wanted to honour his wishes, we eventually made the very difficult decision to admit him to LOROS.
"Feeling very upset and anxious we accompanied him to the hospice, not knowing quite how he would react. Within a very short space of time it was obvious that we had made the right decision and although he was unable to express it we knew, instinctively, that Dad felt comfortable, safe and peaceful.
"The warmth and professionalism of every member of staff and the volunteers at LOROS was amazing. My Dad was cared for in the most compassionate and dignified way and nothing was ever too much trouble. Equally, the support and care given to us, his family, was sensitive and perceptive.
"Doing the Great North Run is our small way of showing our gratitude - this one's for you Dad!"
Kerry hasn't had too much time to train this year, so she won't be looking for personal best times, but one thing is for sure, she is determined to complete the race and raise as much money as possible for LOROS.
