On Sunday 8th June, families and friends got on their bikes to help raise funds for their local hospice.
The sunny day encouraged more participants than expected at the LOROS "One Big Bike Ride" and 220 people each tackled one of the three cycle routes amid the beautiful surroundings of Rutland Water.
Phil Burton said, "We decided to take part in the cycle ride as it was something we can do with our children, Oliver and William; they both love being out on the bikes. After a slow start, a snapped chain, we eventually got on our way and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. We decided to add the fancy dress as we believe that it would add a smile to all the other participants, and the boys are crazy about super heroes. The sense of community across all of the events we have done with LOROS is amazing and we feel privileged to be a part of this.
LOROS Hospice Fundraiser, Christian Weikert-Picker, said, “The 7,18 & 25 mile rides offer a variety of routes to suit all the family in this beautiful location, overlooking Rutland Water.
"It has been a popular event over the years offering a real challenge. The longer routes are for experienced riders who like a fast and varied course, whilst the shorter route is aimed at children who are just starting out cycling and adults who enjoy a leisurely ride over a safe route.
“Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we hope to better last year’s total and raise in excess of £10,000.
"A big, big thank you to everyone who took part in the ride, to the volunteers who helped before, during and after the event, and to our sponsors for their continued support.
"The money raised will support the work of LOROS Hospice, enabling the charity to help terminally ill patients, their families and carers in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland."
