It’s Hospice Care Week and LOROS Hospice is taking part in a nationwide celebration of end-of-life care – and is encouraging people to show support for their local adult hospice.
The third annual Hospice Care Week, organised by national charitable organisation Help the Hospices, is taking place from Monday 7th October until Sunday 13th October. The week will coincide with a global hospice awareness day on Saturday 12th October - World Hospice and Palliative Care Day.
Now, more than ever, LOROS Hospice and other hospice charities across the country are keen to make sure that quality hospice care is available to meet the needs of increasing numbers of people facing the end of life.
During the week, LOROS will be raising awareness of the specialist care and support it provides for patients living with cancer and other terminal illnesses and to try and demystify hospice care.
For almost 30 years LOROS Hospice has been delivering its renowned specialist care at its Groby Road Hospice and in patients’ own homes across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
People can show their support for LOROS during Hospice Care Week in the following ways:
Volunteering some of your time
Sharing your experience to help raise awareness of the work we do
Making a cash donation
Joining our lottery - It costs £1 a week, with a weekly jackpot of £2,000 plus a host of other prizes to be won
Buying from, or donating to, one of our 25 shops
Organising or going to fundraising events
Leaving LOROS a gift in your Will
There will also be LOROS awareness stands selling various items, and providing information about our care services at:
Beaumont Leys Shopping Centre - Monday 7th October from 9.30am to 6pm Leicester Market – Saturday 12th October from 9.30am to 4pm
Jo Kavanagh, LOROS Director of Care Services, said: “Hospice Care Week is a great opportunity for us to raise the profile of hospice care and to promote the range of services which we provide for our local community.
“Sadly, it is likely that either you, or a relative or friend may need our services within your lifetime, and yet a great many people don’t fully understand what it is that hospices do.
“It’s for this reason that we’d like to ask people to help us spread the word about LOROS Hospice. Whatever you choose to do this Hospice Care Week, you can be sure you are making a difference to the lives of local people and their families who depend upon the free services that we provide.”
