Two men who took on a snooker marathon have not only raised around £2,000, they have also broken a world record in the process.
Nick Barrett and Andy Osborne completed (pictured left) 72 hours of playing snooker continuously, with minimal breaks and precious little sleep on Monday at 10am.
They started the marathon which was held at Market Harborough Conservative Club in Fairfield Road, Harborough, on Friday.
The pair have raised around £2,000 for LOROS, a charity chosen by Mr Barrett as his mum, who died last year, received fantastic support from LOROS when she was ill.
There was a web camera that recorded the feat and Mr Barrett said that supporters were watching the marathon and said that it made for addictive viewing.
Mr Barrett said: “It was a lot harder than the pool we did a couple of years ago and there were moments where I didn’t think we were going to make it.
“I’m touched by the support we got from friends, family and our witnesses.
“A special thank you should go to Lisa Hyde and Pete Leech who were our official timekeepers. I’m so pleased we have managed to raise around £2,000 so far with more donations coming in still.
Mr Osborne and Mr Barrett took on a pool marathon two years ago to raise funds for the MS Society after Mr Barrett’s wife Emma had a multiple sclerosis scare.
The pool marathon raised £3,000 for the MS Society and received massive support from the community. They still hold the record for playing pool of 74 hours, 50 minutes.
Their snooker marathon coincided with the final stages of the snooker world championship.
Mr Barrett said that his next challenge will be fatherhood. His wife is pregnant with twins.
