LOROS supporter Julie Lee is celebrating a £10,000 windfall after buying the winning raffle ticket in a fund-raiser for the charity.

The 61-year-old, who bought the ticket in November, was told the good news last month.

She has now received the cash – and plans to celebrate in style.

Julie, of Narborough, is planning to take her 87-year-old mum, Joy Broughton, on a cruise around the Mediterranean to celebrate.

She said: "It's my one frivolous buy I'm going to allow myself. It's something I've always wanted to do.

"I don't like flying so it's a dream come true. I never imagined I would have the winning ticket.

"I didn't even know what the prizes were so I took some convincing when the charity phoned to tell me the good news. I thought someone was pulling my leg.

"I didn't quite believe it until I got the cheque the other day. it's still sinking in.

"I've safely deposited the money in the bank now."

The hospice's annual draw was made at Rothley Primary School in memory of teacher Sarah Stonehouse, who died at LOROS in December 2011, aged 39.

Almost 113,000 people bought tickets, helping to raise £112,862 – the largest amount the raffle has generated.

LOROS lottery manager Liz Singleton said: "The profit raised from our raffles goes directly towards supporting our patients and their carers.

"It was a pleasure to be able to present Julie with her cheque for £10,000 – a fantastic sum of money and a brilliant way to start 2013. I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported the raffle by buying or selling tickets."
