Former world champion Dennis Taylor will be in Wigston next week to take on local players and give an exhibition of his famous trick shots.

Taylor will be at the Winchester Snooker Club, Central Avenue, a week tomorrow for a fund-raising evening in aid of LOROS.

Now a respected commentator and a popular face on the exhibition circuit, Taylor is most well-known for his thrilling late-night win in the final of the World Championship in 1985.

In front of millions of TV viewers, Taylor sunk the final black to win the deciding frame against defending champion Steve Davis after fighting back to 17-17.

It was one of the greatest sporting memories of the decade, and in snooker's history, with Taylor's finger-wagging and cue-over-the-head celebrations forever etched in the memory. Both gestures are likely to be repeated next Saturday!

Winchester owner Mukesh Parmar said: "We're delighted to bring someone of Dennis' calibre to Wigston.

"It promises to be a very entertaining evening, and we will hopefully raise a lot of funds for a very worthy cause."

There will be a raffle on the night, with the main prize giving the winner the chance to play a frame against Taylor.

Tickets for the show, which starts at 7.0, are £10 and are already selling fast. To book, telephone 0116 281 3064.
