Chairman's £6,000 gift

The former chairman of North West Leicestershire District Council, Nigel Smith, helped to raise more than £6,000 for the LOROS hospice during his year in office.

Several events were held to raise money for and awareness of the charity which provides free support and care for local terminally ill patients and their friends and families.

Councillor Smith said "I want to thank everyone who helped raise funds for my chosen charity during my year of office.

"The money raised will be used in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland."
