A PRESIDENT who has led her club through a year of successful fundraising has passed over the chains of office to a new leader.

Judith Lilley stepped down as president of Harborough Inner Wheel at an evening meal at her Harborough home when she handed over to new president Lyn Anderson.

Mrs Lilley said the club raised £500 for hospice charity LOROS and £150 for the Market Harborough Community Vehicle bus during the year.

The club also raised £200 for the Smile Train which provides for operations on children who are born with a cleft lip and palate.

Mrs Lilley said: “I would like to thank all those Inner Wheelers who helped raise this money and to the community who generously supported our charity events this past year.”

Mrs Anderson’s charity this year will be Macmillan Cancer Support and Breadline Africa.

She said: “I lived in South Africa for 33 years so it is very close to my heart.

“Breadline Africa fits out shipping containers as temporary kitchens or clinics and puts them in rural areas to make sure school children get a decent meal every day.”

The handover evening took place on July 2.

Mrs Anderson, who has had a stint as president in the past said she is looking forward to a year of “friendship and fellowship” at Harborough Inner Wheel. ENDS
