Hospice patients have been taking a look at the Olympic torch and its 1948 London Games predecessor.

Torchbearer Aarti Thobhani, of Leicester's West End, visited Rainbows children's hospice, in Loughborough, and LOROS, in Groby Road, Leicester, to recount her experience of carrying the flame in her home town.

"Those four minutes of running with the flame will last a lifetime in my heart," said the 26-year-old, who carried the flame in St George Street, Leicester, on July 2.

"It was great to share the experience with others who were unable to watch the relay and let them hold the torch."

The visit was organised by the Inspire LeicesterShire 2012 Legacy Team, which borrowed the 1948 torch from Loughborough College.

Dan Mitchinson, 2012 Games legacy coordinator for Leicestershire, said: "We've seen how the torch relay captured the imagination of people when it came through the county in July.

"We hoped bringing the torches to people will allow them to feel a bit closer to the Games."

Julie Macauley, family liaison officer at Rainbows, said: "The children couldn't wait to have their pictures taken with the torches." ?
