A well known Harborough firm has reported a solid financial performance in 2011 – bucking the current recession.
Market Harborough Building Society, which recently moved some of its offices to the former Harborough Working Men’s Club in Northampton Road, announced pre-tax profits last year were £742,000 at its AGM.
The Society’s AGM, held at the Three Swans in Market Harborough was well attended and provided members with a chance to meet and chat to the society’s directors.
The firm said it was delighted with its financial performance especially in light of the ongoing subdued economic conditions.
Mark Robinson, chief executive, said: “Respecting the traditional values that have ensured prudent but strong growth over the last 142 years, we are continuing to launch innovative products to help borrowers and savers in the local community.”
In 2011 the society also opened a new agency in Lutterworth to extend its presence across the county. This year’s AGM saw the Society once again donating 25p for every vote cast to charity, raising a total of £1,500.
The charities benefiting are LOROS Hospice, Cransley Hospice and Barnardo’s, with members choosing which of these three they personally wanted to support.
Market Harborough Building Society was established in the south Leicestershire town of Market Harborough in 1870.
With assets now exceeding £417m, nearly 50,000 savings customers and almost 5,000 mortgage customers, the society has grown steadily over the last 142 years.
