Roy Brown, from Sileby, died last month aged 65.
Councillor Brown, who represented the village on Charnwood Borough Council for nine years, had been having chemotherapy for cancer – diagnosed in late 2008 when a tumour was found on his bile duct.
His wife Gill said £1,150 had been raised for LOROS hospice, in Leicester, following his funeral on April 25. She said: "I would like to thank everyone for their kindness and support following Roy's death.
"There have been about 170 cards from people who knew Roy – some from people he met in his year as Charnwood mayor in 2009. It has been very touching to know he is remembered fondly."
Mrs Brown said her husband – a former soldier – has had his name entered into a memorial book for the Leicestershire Regiment in Leicester Cathedral.
