LOROS Colourfun Mile

The sun was shining, the weather stayed dry and Hinckley suddenly became even brighter as more than 1,200 people took to the town’s streets for this year’s annual LOROS Colourfun Mile.

People of all ages raced through the town centre, getting showered in brightly coloured powdered paint to raise money for the Groby Road Hospice on Wednesday night.

The event, which is set to raise more than £10,000 for LOROS, began at Station Road, with five colour stations en-route, before ending in Market Place.

LOROS Fundraising Co-ordinator Laura Fitzsawyer, who organised the event, said: “This year’s Colourfun Mile was absolutely wonderful.

“At one point, I looked around when everyone was registering and collecting their paint and every single person had the biggest smile on their face, as they were covering each other in colour.

“From dogs, to babies, mums, dads and grandparents, it was great to see so many people get involved and supporting LOROS.

“We had such a fantastic turnout this year and we hope everyone enjoyed it just as much as we did.”

As participants crossed the finish line, all covered head-to-toe in paint, they were each awarded a colourful medal.

Entertaining participants as they snaked through the town was steel drum band, Sambando, playing lively music for people to run to.

Michelle Edge, 36, of Hinckley, who took part in the event, said: “It was brilliant fun; I love any excuse to get messy and cover myself in bright colours.

“This was a totally new event for me, I’d never done it before. It was wonderful to see all of the community coming together, including families of all ages, from tiny tots, to teenagers.

“I’m looking forward to next year already.
